- Q. How does it work?
A. KPRC WebShare takes a file you'd like to share from your computer, copies it to a unique Holding Area on the KPRC WebShare server, then emails instructions for retrieving that file to whomever you specify. The recipient(s) then download your shared file from the KPRC WebShare server to their computer using a Web browser. - Q. How do I send the same file to many recipients?
A. You may nominate the email address of the main recipient in the "To:" field of the form presented in Step 2, and one or more email addresses in the "Cc:" field of the form. Multiple email addresses in the "Cc:" field need to be separated by a comma, with no spaces in between eg. person@here.com,another@there.com,yetanother@everywhere.com. Of course, a single email address in the "To:" field which acts as a group distribution list is another way to send a file to multiple recipients. Do NOT put multiple addresses into the "To:" field of the form as this will generate an error.
You may nominate up to 3 Cc: recipients. This is to minimise the impact of any abuse of the system.

- Q. How do I send many files to the same recipient(s)?
A. Up to ten files may be shared at a time by pressing each of the available "Browse" buttons and selecting appropriate files. If you wish to share more than ten files, the easiest way is to create a zip archive containing the files you want to share, then share this single file with the intended recipient(s). You may create the zip archive using something like 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org) or WinZip (http://www.winzip.com) on Windows, ZipIt (http://www.maczipit.com) or zip ( http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/) on Linux. - Q. I've shared files that I shouldn't have shared. What do I do?
A. There will be a link in the Confirmation email sent to you by the system which will enable you to delete the files you sent. Note that once you've deleted files from the Holding Area, they cannot be recovered. - Q. When I go to retrieve a shared file I get a "Data File Error" or
an "Object not found" message. Where's the file?
A. Gone. It's most likely that file(s) in the Holding Area have been deleted by either the Originator, or in the case of multiple recipients, another Recipient. You'll have to contact the Originator. - Q. I'm internal to KPRC-TV, why can't I access a file that's been shared with me? or I keep getting a message like "This type of file is restricted".
A. You may need to add webshare.kprctv.com to the list of proxy exclusions in your web browser in order to retrieve some file types.
Firefox:
Open your web browser, click Tools from the menu-bar, choose Options, click the General tab, click Connection Settings, select Manual proxy configuration, in "No proxy for" box go to the end of the entries in the box and type , then webshare.kprctv.com then click OK twice (once for each of the open dialogue boxes).
Internet Explorer:
Open your web browser, click Tools from the menu-bar, choose Internet Options, click the Connections tab, click the LAN Settings button, click the Advanced button, and in the Exceptions text box, go to the end of the entries in the box and type ; then webshare.kprctv.com then click OK three times (once for each of the open dialogue boxes). - Q. No matter what I do, even though the email address is correct, I get an error. What's going on?
A. Possibilities: 1. Your browser auto-complete may have picked up a stray, non-printable, non-acceptible character which is now held in cache and persists. Clear both the memory and disk cache of your browser and try again. Don't use auto-complete. 2. You are attempting to enter multiple email addresses into the To: field. Enter multiple email addresses into the Cc: field, separated by a single comma and no spaces. - Q. Who has access to the files that are shared?
A. Just the person who receives an email telling them that there is a file in the Holding Area that someone wants them to see. The shared file is held in a directory having a randomized name with 8 to the power of 10 different combinations. Putting it another way, it would take a computer with a single 2GHz processor running 24 hours per day around 13 years to try all the combinations for one directory name. In addition, shared files in the holding area are automatically deleted after 21 days whether they've been collected or not. - Q. Who can share files?
A. Anyone inside KPRC-TV, who wants to share a file either with someone else in KPRC-TV or someone from selected networks outside KPRC-TV; and anyone in selected networks outside KPRC-TV who wants to share a file with someone inside KPRC-TV. People outside KPRC-TV cannot share files with other people outside KPRC-TV. - Q. How many of each type of file have been shared through the KPRC WebShare?
A. You may check the KPRC WebShare statistics here
